Richard Weingarten
Executive Secretary, United Nations Capital Development Fund

Mr. Richard Weingarten joined the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) in August 2005 as Executive Secretary of the organization. An experienced financial advisor and investment banker, Mr. Weingarten started his career as Special Counsel to the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission in 1976. He then practiced corporate and securities law in New York City before turning to investment banking. From 1983-1991 he worked at two investment banking firms: Bear, Stearns and Co. and Alex. Brown and Sons. At Bear Stearns, he was a Managing Director and the Director of Corporate Finance for the Southeastern (USA) Region.In 1991, Mr. Weingarten established Richard Weingarten & Company, Inc., a private firm that provided financial advisory and investment banking services to a wide variety of clients in both the private and non-profit sectors. The firm assisted clients with strategic, financial and operational issues, including financings, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic alliances.

In addition to his positions in the public and private sectors, Mr. Weingarten has worked with many non-profit organizations, particularly in the area of economic development. He has worked in various roles under a variety of circumstances in many geographic areas, including Asia, Africa, and Latin America. His experience includes working on microfinance and local development projects. Mr. Weingarten has held several Board positions for a number of non-profit organizations, and from 2000-2001 he was Senior Vice President for Finance and Development for the College Board, a not-for-profit membership association of colleges and universities in New York City.

Mr. Weingarten holds a JD from Antioch School of Law in Washington, D.C. and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy and History from Yale University.
